26/05/23 From Colin Green
Thank you so much for your delightful performances at Truro and Falmouth, these last two Sunday afternoons. My wife Sheila and I were so blessed by your music and your manner, most especially Cornet Linda being so helpful and friendly. How bizarrre to experience the worm charming and lovely to see the band joining in that too! We come to Cornwall on holiday most years and will always look out for you. Do you welcome visitors to your Wednesday rehearsals? My warmest regards, Colin Green
Yes, we are always happy to see new faces!

02/08/20 From Pauline Griffin, Queensland, Australia.
I have just been looking at your home page and it brought back so many memories.
Bryan was with Gweek band for a number of years before we came to Australia
so pleased to see that it still has its place in village life.
Keep up the good work and hello to Dee and Tony.
Bryan was a much loved member of Gweek Band. He and his wife, Pauline, emigrated to Australia, where Bryan played with the Sunshine Brass Band. Sadly, Bryan passed away in April 2019.

09/12/17 From Derek Hewis, Connecticut USA
Could you pass on my best wishes to Tony as I see this is final weekend as musical director with the band. Enjoy your retirement Tony.
We spent time together at junior musicians wing Pirbright and time together in the Band of the Coldstream Guards.

22/12/16 From Margaret Riley, Chair, Helston and The Lizard Fundraising Group
Please convey our sincere thanks to the band for their excellent contribution to our Marie Curie Christmas Concert. I know that everyone in the packed hall really enjoyed the evening.
We raised an amazing £1061.70 which will contribute towards the cost of the 26 Marie Curie nurses who work throughout Cornwall.
Thank you so much for your continued support for the work of Marie Curie in Cornwall. I do hope we can count on you to come back again on 10 December 2017 -

13/9/16 From Naomi Belert, Secretary, Porthleven Town Band
I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Gweek Silver Band on behalf of Porthleven Town Band's players, committee and trustees for their contribution to our Band Sunday event on 21st August. Despite the dubious weather at the start of the day, it turned out to be a really good evening and we were really pleased to see such a good turnout. I hope that we will be able to continue the tradition of you playing with us again next year.
Thank you again for your support.
Kind regards
Naomi

25/7/16 From Judy Moseley
I was looking for something to do and saw your advert on the 'what's on in Cornwall' website, and thought I'd come along. I was not disappointed. The Gweek and Porthleven bands were excellent, with YMCA, Stand by me and the Floral Dance being my favourites. Thank you for a wonderful musical evening.

1/5/15 Here are some extracts from a lovely email we received from Douglas Brickhill in Launceston, Tasmania:
Hi, I am an old disabled and housebound ex bandsman who misses his brass banding so much that I have a hobby which enables me to have some contact with what I used to do for many years, many years ago, I correspond with many UK brass bands by emails and find most of their websites entrancing, with their histories and current news.
This morning I had another brainwave, in Googling Cornwall brass bands, and I found many that don't appear in the IBEW listing, but lo and behold, you actually are there!
I have a soft spot for the people of Cornwall as I live at Launceston, (on the Tamar River like yours)
and played until health/mobility issues forced me to hand back my baritone.
You guys sound like a FUN group, with pig roasts , quiz nights, pigeon shoots, Gala Week, etc.
I notice that you have several lady players, which is extremely rare here and indeed in Australia. I would like to learn a little more about Gweek and surrounds.
Best wishes to all
Doug

You'd all hate it! See you in March

On Saturday 6 April 2013 the band played at a wedding at St. Martin Church. We have received a lovely card from the happy couple:
Tony, Diana and everyone in the Gweek Silver Band. We can't thank you enough for the AMAZING job you did at our wedding -

Gentlemen,
I fully accept your webpage stating that the Gweek Band was formed in 1926. But is it possible that there was a Gweek Band in the early 20th century? I have three photos, each claim to be Gweek Band, and each playing at Sunday school treats or Band if Hope treats. My next photo is c1934 which does beg the question -
Yours, John Brush. 31 Oct 2012
You can see the results of our investigations on our webpage 'About Us' -

Well done! An outstanding result. You are a credit to the village.

Hi Everyone
Greetings from the Australian winter (28C yesterday).
I'm keeping up with the band on the website and glad you are having a great summer season.
Sorry I missed the free beer at Tony's party, but I'm trying to make up for it here.
Keeping my lip in at Sunshine Brass, checkout www.qba.org.au/sunshinebrass/ especially the first baritone player!!
Hope you're keeping a seat for me from February.
Best regards
Bryan Griffin

I would like to thank the band members who went to great effort to attend our party at Perran on Saturday. I know the effort you all went to, to be here. It was the icing on the cake, to see the faces of Tony and my parents when you started up, and appeared around the corner, something money cannot buy.... you were all fantastic. There have been many comments of what a lovely afternoon it was, but I think it was summed up when one of my Mums friends said, 'All that was missing was the tea treat bun!'
Once again a big Thank You, as it was an afternoon that someone said -
I hope the pig and dessert were worth your efforts!
Best wishes

On behalf of the Mission Church, and all those who attended the Remembrance Service, we would like you to know how much your march and attendance meant to us. The wreath laying, the Last Post and the silence were very poignant, and the hymns were so uplifting. Thank you all for all you do for us. With all good wishes.

Hello. Just a quick note to say how well the band sounded on St Ives Pier. I thoroughly enjoyed it even though my girls were a bit noisy in parts, but that's open air music for you. I am in the 4th picture from the day helping my youngest dance to the music.
Hopefully see you again next year.
Mark Bodenham, Bb Bass, City of Bristol Band

All of the shooters have asked me to pass on their thanks to the band for playing at the shoot. They said it was nice to see what they help to support, even in a small way. So would you please pass on their thanks. It was much appreciated.

A happy new year to you all. In the early 1940s I lived at Mellanoweth Farm with Tom and Beatrice Mitchell and at that time the band room was a little higher up the road, and I used to go and listen to them practice and one of the pieces they played was Bandology, do you still play this piece.?
Would you kindly pass on my regards to Billy Orchard, I knew him as a little boy when coming to Gweek for holidays. I have many happy memories of times past when I lived there. Hoping for a reply sometime.
Peter Dickman,

Gweeks bearing gifts!
Gweek Silver Band recently entered their first contest for many years at the Truro contest and came away with runners up prize in the ungraded section.
They also picked up the prize as the best Cornish band, and a 3rd in the 4th section. Solo cornet Linda Lee also received the best instrumentalist award.
The band, based on the Helford river in Cornwall, was one of many bands struggling to stay afloat, but has gradually got itself back to full strength thanks largely to bandmaster Tony Richards.
Secretary Jane Rutter told 4BR: 'Everyone looks forward to practise night and is enthusiastic about the future.'

As an ex Porthleven Town Band player (and sometimes guest player on Flora Day!) I still follow the fortunes of local bands in West Cornwall. It's great to see that Gweek Silver Band is riding high once again. Congratulations to Tony and all the band.
